Smoothie Porridge

Updated: Apr 13, 2020

Breakfast smoothie or porridge in the morning depends on my mood so what to do...

I love porridge, as you already know, and have also recently discovered breakfast smoothies. Breakfast smoothies is simply various fruits blended together with some oats to make a more filling smoothie to start the day.

My thinking therefore was if I'm using oats in both porridge and smoothies and practically putting the same ingredients in both too, like milk, banana, frozen fruit, aren't they interchangeable? After testing out my theory I discovered yes it works!

All I do now is a make a smoothie in the blender the night before, in the morning I can decide to simply grab and go or make it into a more warming bowl of porridge...how exciting!

I feel everyone should know this quick and easy breakfast.

Also, since the oats are blended the porridge cooks in minutes meaning you don't have any hanging around - ideal!

Smoothie porridge

Serves 1

Ingredients:

  • 1 banana

  • 1/2 cup oats

  • 1/2 cup milk

  • 1/2 cup water

  • a handful of frozen berries

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • 1 tbsp nut butter (optional)

Method:

  • Place all the ingredients in a blender - I have a Breville blender but any smoothie maker will work. You can do this the night before or in the morning.

  • Now you choose...

  • Smoothie - grab and go, you're done. Add some chia seeds, if you fancy, for extra crunch.

  • Porridge - Add two pinches of salt, then transfer the smoothie to a saucepan and place on a medium heat for 5 minutes until smooth and creamy. Top with dried fruit and a dash more cinnamon.

  • Ta da!
